Thrive Through Menopause
- Health and Wellbeing
Three Meem Foundation organised a health and well-being talk titled ‘Thrive Through Menopause’ on 13th December 2024. It was conducted by Dr. Natalie Summerhill, a qualified GP and an advanced menopause specialist. The event was well-attended by women across a broad age range, including those in peri-menopausal and post-menopausal stages. The talk aimed to provide valuable insights into menopause management, promote health and well-being during this life stage, and address common concerns associated with menopause.
Dr Summerhill began by explaining the biological processes of menopause and peri-menopause, highlighting the hormonal changes and their physical, emotional, and psychological impacts. She emphasised the importance of understanding menopause as a natural phase of life and equipping oneself with the tools to manage its challenges effectively.
Dr Summerhill stressed the importance of identifying symptoms early and seeking appropriate medical advice. Medical interventions, including Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), were explained in detail with a focus on their benefits and potential risks.
Following the presentation, a lively Q&A session allowed attendees to engage directly with Dr Summerhill. Women posed questions on a variety of topics, including personalised approaches to HRT, managing specific symptoms like joint pain and hair loss, and navigating menopause while maintaining a demanding career or family responsibilities.
The talk was highly appreciated by attendees, many of whom expressed gratitude to the organisers for the opportunity to gain expert guidance in a supportive environment. The event fostered a sense of community among participants, helping to normalize conversations around menopause and encouraging women to seek help and prioritize their health.
Dr Natalie Summerhill’s talk on “Thrive Through Menopause” proved to be an informative and empowering session for women at various stages of menopause. By addressing both physical and emotional aspects, the event contributed to promoting holistic health and well-being. Future sessions focusing on related topics, such as menopause and workplace challenges or post-menopause health, could further support women during this transitional phase.
