Footcare Workshop
- Health and Wellbeing
The Three Meem Foundation held a Footcare Workshop on 19th January from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, focusing on diabetic foot care and peripheral vascular disease. Specialist podiatrist Sumaira Mahmood delivered an excellent presentation on diabetic foot care and its links with peripheral vascular disease. She highlighted the signs and symptoms of diabetic foot complications and the risks associated with neglecting footcare. Sumaira also explained the problems related to poor circulation in the legs and the early features of ischaemia, offering valuable tips for maintaining proper foot health.
Avril Murray followed with an insightful talk on common foot problems, including fungal infections, warts, and calluses. She emphasised the importance of wearing appropriate footwear and discussed the long-term risks of wearing high heels.
The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where Sumaira and Avril addressed audience questions in detail.
In the second part of the workshop, both Sumaira and Avril conducted general foot check-ups and screened most participants for peripheral vascular disease using Doppler devices and by checking foot pulses. They provided individual advice and signposted attendees to relevant services.
The workshop was highly interactive, and all attendees greatly benefited from the expert guidance and practical tips shared by the podiatrists.
